PCBN is a composite formed by sintering together carefully selected cBN particles at very high temperature and pressure in the presence of a metal/ceramic catalyst binder material. The end product is a solid, homogeneous layer of PCBN that displays a unique combination of hardness, toughness and thermo-chemical stability, properties which are increasingly important in a cutting tool material to meet the demands of machining hard ferrous materials.
Typical components machined with PCBN would be brake discs, engine blocks, engine cylinder liners, brake drums, flywheels, valve seats/guides, machine parts, gears, mould and die parts etc.
